Moroccan Darija Introduction Phrases

 


Introducing yourself is one of the first things you’ll need in Moroccan Arabic (Darija). Here are the most common phrases to say your name, ask someone’s name, and share where you are from.

Mnin nta? Where are you from? (to male) Tu viens d’où ? (masc.)

Here’s a short dialogue in Darija with translation:

  • Person A: Salam! Shno smitk? → Hello! What’s your name?
  • Person B: Smiti Youssef. W nta? → My name is Youssef. And you?
  • Person A: Ana Sofia. Mnin nta? → I’m Sofia. Where are you from?
  • Person B: Ana mn Marrakech. → I am from Marrakech.
  • Person A: Mtcharfin → Nice to meet you!
💡 Tip: In Darija, when speaking politely, you can add "Sidi" (sir) or "Lalla" (madam) after the name. Example: Shukran Lalla (Thank you, Madam).
